The Grand Spectacle At Versailles

In the evening we entered the large never-ending gardens behind the castle for a huge event. The show is called “The Fountains Night Show” which runs on Saturdays from June 16-September 1st and on Friday, September 7 all from 9pm-11pm.

It started off with these men above on horses with some typical music playing and then they brought out trumpets and played the trumpets…like an opening ceremony of sorts. It was packed with hundreds and hundreds of people.

After this introduction we walked around the park where they had all of the original fountains running with lights and smoke and even dry ice!! There were 15 or 20 different little fountain shows to visit.

This was the first…It is very expensive to run these fountains for a long time so this was only around 5 five minutes long. What was really fascinating was that the piping and the pumps are all original! Back in the day there was always a person around ready to turn on the fountains when the king was about to pass and as soon as he passed, that same person would run to the tap and turn them off! For something that was built hundreds of years ago, it was truly impressive!! Note that one fountain in that bunch above goes higher than 10 metres!

Things started to get really fun when we ran into this!!

Notice this display above! They had green laser-like lights beaming across over top and smoke machines down below so it looked like we had a green ceiling above us! It was really impressive and such a cool idea!! It was our last fountain display of the night!

And then…

FIREWORKS!!

I’m so sad that these photos didn’t turn out better because I can honestly say that this was the best display of fireworks I have ever seen. They were so large and they went so high and there were so many, perfectly coordinated to the music, in so many colours!!

And that wraps up my Versailles adventure!
