Welcome to part 2 of my little Versailles adventure! Notice the picture above. Underneath that clock is the King’s chambers. He moved his bedroom here, in the centre of the main court to watch over all activity. He did all of his business in the room next to his bedroom.

After our tour, we headed outside to hand in our little tour guide radio things and then explore some of the further gardens. The gardens right outside were being set up for the grand spectacle at night (can’t wait to show you) and you need a special ticket. Our tickets permitted us in the evening but not in the afternoons…further excuse to check out some of the garden a few kilometres away. And this palace is on many many kilometers of land…it even includes farm land!

The sky was so so blue that day. When we woke up in the morning in Reims, it was pouring rain. It was even raining a little and quite cloudy during our indoor tour of the castle but as soon as we stepped outside, the clouds cleared away. The weather forcast predicted a sunny late afternoon so I had faith that the day would turn out so beautifully (which I don’t know why because they are always wrong, aren’t they?!).

Max and I entered the queen’s garden. Museums have a free entry for European citizens under the age of 26 and I am not European but I swear that cardigan over my shoulders must have convinced them because they let me in too. Shhhh. Don’t tell them that I wasn’t French.

Only the queen and her court people were allowed into this garden on the far, far side of the palace land.

This water (what is it? A fountain? A lake? A pool? It’s only a foot deep…) goes on for a while. Max and I were so impressed by the size of these gardens. They seem to never end!

Tomorrow I’ll have more goodness from Versailles for you but that’s all today. This was the walking view along the paths in the palace yard by the way!
